Just what does Missouri Citizens for the Arts do???
Missouri Arts Council (MAC) supports many, many arts events and arts organizations throughout the entire state of Missouri. Our state is enhanced by the cultural opportunities MAC funds. The funds that MAC distributes through grants come from public funds—namely, the out-of-state Athlete’s and Entertainers’ tax, which is collected from every athlete or entertainer who competes/performs here in Missouri. Missouri Arts Council is a state agency and a division of the Department of Economic Development. As such, MAC cannot advocate on their own behalf.
Missouri Citizens for the Arts (MCA) works to raise public awareness of the importance of the arts in our state and advocates to maintain public funding for Missouri Arts Council (MAC). As private citizens of Missouri, we speak up so legislators understand that Missouri’s residents want public support of the arts.
In other words, MCA works constantly to be sure that MAC receives its share of public funding, so MAC can continue to provide grants to arts groups in our state. One of the key components of MCA’s advocacy is keeping an experienced legislative consultant in Jefferson City to continually advocate for the arts.
And that’s why MCA needs YOU! Your support of MCA ensures that Missouri Citizens for the Arts can continue to work for the public funding of Missouri Arts Council. Do you care about the arts in Missouri? Won’t you please show your support by joining Missouri Citizens for the Arts today? Please help us complete the circle of support.
